Kaleidoscope - 'MIKADO' Polarized Oil Cell by Hiroshi Wakabayashi
Brightly colored both on the exterior and interior, this kaleidoscope is created with a 2 mirror system and an oil filled turning object chamber containing tiny pieces of transparent film. To further enhance the interior beauty, Hiroshi used a polarized film inside the object chamber. This film filters out light rays that would normally pass through and illuminates the transparent pieces inside. The range of colors is caused by the light rays bending at various angles. Its like watching a kaleidoscope of rainbows.
The body of the scope is partly enhanced with a decorative and colorful Japanese print and partly with gold paint and tiny dichroic speckles which both complement the interior images. The exterior of the object chamber is also enhanced with a decorative gold epoxy.
This scope is approximately 5-1/2" long, 1-1/8" wide at the eye piece end and 1-3/4" wide at the object chamber end.
