Sue introduced this style kaleidoscope at the 2015 convention of the Brewster Kaleidoscope Society, an international group of collectors, artists and retailers. She combined her two life-long passions--the creation of collectible glass kaleidoscopes and animals--in this adorable series of kaleidoscopes she aptly names "SuZoo".
She designed each version to be palm-sized, and created them from 10 strips of black glass (except the Snowy Owl, which has pearl white glass). The glass pieces are soldered together and decorated with dots of solder, all of which are also finished with her signature patina, resulting in a copper effect, also on the eyepiece end. On the base end, she has chosen a lively, reflective piece of dichroic glass. The oil cell consists of a variety of glass and baubles and of course, the yellow bird.
This is a perfect gift choice when space is a concern because it stands on its eyepiece end, and it's a kaleidoscope that kids of all ages will enjoy. It measures approximately 6-3/4" long x 1-3/4" in diameter.
