J. Farnsworth Woodworker | Bloomington, INJerry has been working in wood in one form or another for over 30 years. His work in the last few years has taken a turn toward stretching the tradition of kaleidoscope design and execution. Imaginative and unique uses of object chamber contents, fine wood exterior and mirror manipulation make unusual and exciting new work. In 2003, Jerry won the top award in the Brewster's [collectors'] Society’s"Peoples Choice" competition.
The process in creating Jerry’s scopes involves lamination, intarsia, carving, and hand shaping of fine burls and woods to form a casing in which to contain the kaleidoscope mirror system and object chamber. Fine woodworking, accurate glass and mirror placement , lens inclusion, as well as care in reflective design are the main techniques involved.
Jerry says, “I believe there are limitless innovations that can be developed with kaleidoscopes. I strive to develop new and exciting mirror and viewing systems to make scopes that relax and entertain.”
