The Floret Interchangeable Chrome is a highly desirable, handheld chrome kaleidoscope with two interchangeable and independently turning wheels, with two additional wheels stored on its custom base. The wheels are created in a stained glass technique, and consist of:
- Brazilian agate stone, lovely for its variety of color and striations
- multicolored textured dichroic glass, which is glass that is treated with multiple layers of metal oxides, making it highly reflective
- multicolored smooth dichroic glass
- a variety of millefiore glass pieces, little "pictures" of glass, handbundled by Jon's mother and step-father, Janice & Ray Chesnik, the founders of Chesnik Scopes, in a centuries-old Italian technique
The majority of the image that you see as you look through its eyepiece is created by the primary wheel, or the one closest to your eye, and the secondary wheel provides background or accent image. When you unscrew the knob holding the wheels and trade out the wheels front-to-back, you are rewarded with an entirely different kaleidocopic view. With four distinctly different wheels to choose from and interchange, imagine all the permutations, truly a visual extravaganza. The usual response from a first-time viewer is a gasp and an exclamation of delight. The teardrop eyepiece affords a pristine view of the 8-point mandala. It is available in a 3-mirror system, and a 2-mirror is available upon request.
The kaleidoscope itself is 9" long x 1-1/2" diameter, and the wheels are 3" in diameter. When sitting on its custom walnut wooden base, the entire set measures 9-1/4" wide x 6-1/4" deep x 4" tall.
*You can also purchase a fifth wheel to make this kaleidoscope even more interchangeable:
and store that wheel in this Sm Wheel Rack Black .
